Meade School District Implements New Cell Phone and Digital Device Policy to Support Student Learning and Well-Being
In an effort to create a more focused, inclusive, and safe learning environment, the Meade School District has adopted a new policy—School Policy JFCK: Cell Phones and Portable Digital Media Devices—that limits the use of personal electronic devices during school hours.
The policy, now in effect across all schools in the district, is designed to minimize classroom distractions, promote mental health, and ensure equitable access to learning. Under the new rules, students are prohibited from using personal devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, and portable media players during instructional time and in other school settings where learning or safety could be impacted. All students are expected to keep their devices powered off and stored out of sight throughout the school day. Smartwatches must be switched to Airplane or School Mode to prevent distractions and maintain focus during instruction.
The district encourages parents to partner with schools in reinforcing these expectations. For full details, parents and guardians can access Policy JFCK and individual school handbooks via the Meade School District’s official website
