Five Sturgis Brown High School students recently participated in the Dakota State University (DSU) Cyber Roadshow, held at the Black Hills State University–Rapid City campus. The event took place on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and provided high school students the opportunity to explore the growing world of technology and cybersecurity through hands-on experiences.
Representing Sturgis Brown High School were Jacob Span, Grayson Toolen, Trenton Hagee, Gordon Larsen, and Riley Mutter. During the event, students engaged in five interactive sessions led by DSU instructors. Topics included Learning How to Code using Mastermind, Creating a Game with Artificial Intelligence, Soldering Circuits, Steganography (the art of hiding information within images), and Password Security.
The DSU Cyber Roadshow is a free educational event designed to introduce students to fields such as programming, cybersecurity, networking, and artificial intelligence. Each session is taught by DSU faculty and students, giving participants valuable insight into the university’s Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences programs.
Through hands-on workshops, participants didn’t just hear about technology—they got to experience it firsthand, exploring DSU’s Cyber Operations, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Network & Security Administration programs in an engaging, interactive way. The event provided an excellent opportunity for SBHS students to expand their knowledge, test their skills, and gain inspiration for future careers in the ever-evolving field of technology.
