2026 SBHS State Track & Field

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Sturgis Scooper track and field team wrapped up an outstanding 2026 season with several strong performances at the South Dakota State AA Track and Field Championships held May 28-30 in Sioux Falls.

Scooper junior thrower, Murielle Hagen, earned a state medal by placing eighth in the girls shot put. Hagen delivered a personal-record throw of 37 feet, 4.5 inches, capping off her season with her best performance on the biggest stage.

The boys 1600-meter Sprint Medley Relay team also reached the podium with a fourth-place finish in a highly competitive field. The quartet of Jude Legner, Mason Venjohn, Seth Burton, and Taylor Colunga crossed the finish line in 3:30.53, earning All-State honors and showcasing the depth of the Scoopers' relay program.

In the girls high jump, Danica Dschaak cleared 5 feet, 3 inches to place fourth overall, continuing her strong season and adding another top-five finish for Sturgis.

On the track, Seth Burton secured a state medal in the boys 400-meter dash, finishing eighth with a time of 51.01 seconds. Burton's performance highlighted his versatility as both an individual competitor and relay contributor.

Eighth-grader Kaylie Theberge demonstrated a bright future for the Scoopers by placing sixth in the girls 100-meter dash. Theberge sprinted to a time of 12.36 seconds, earning a place on the podium in her first state track and field championship appearance.

The State AA meet marked the culmination of a memorable season for the Sturgis track and field program. With multiple athletes earning podium finishes, personal records, and All-State recognition, the Scoopers showcased their hard work, determination, and commitment throughout the spring.
