Sturgis Williams Middle School TATU students presented a lesson to 5th graders from Whitewood on the importance of being tobacco free.
Wednesday May 8th, 40 7th grade girls from SWMS had the privilege of attending the Women in Science event at BHSU. Students started the day with a keynote speaker, and then spent the remainder of the day attending small group sessions. They learned about many careers across the STEM disciplines and enjoyed many hands-on activities. It was a great experience!
Sturgis William Middle School choir students preformed their last concert of the season May 7th, and it was amazing as usual.
Staff was treated to pizza for lunch today from Student Council in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Friday, May 3 was School Lunch Heroes Day. In support of our wonderful cafeteria, staff and students dressed as their favorite super hero.
Eighteen Sturgis eighth-graders signed letters of intent to play Scooper football this fall.
Sturgis 5th grade students were treated to a presentation by Don Balyeat on the Civil War.
On Earth Day, the SWMS 5th grade students were given the opportunity to participate in the first ever Black Hills Water Festival. This experience was led by the SDARWS (South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems) and allowed students to learn about all things water!

Beginning Band Information Night

Choir students in 5th - 8th grade competed in the Large Group Contest Wednesday, April 17. All four groups did an amazing job.
During Mrs. Neilan's FLEX class 5th grade students get a taste of the activities in the STEM Lab. Students touched on a little bit of art as well to make it a STEAM Lab. Here students are playing with Play-Doh to learn about shapes, textures, and tactile perception.
In Mrs. Neilan's STEM class students explore the concept of the Engineering Design Process by building the tallest cup tower.
SWMS students attended the iNSPiRE BY Omnitech Event at the South Dakota School of Mines on April 11. The event allows 8th-12th grade girls the opportunity to participate in STEM workshops and talk with local professionals. Attendees learned about college and career path in high-tech companies.

Sunshine and Starbucks
On Friday Mrs. Heupel's students learned how to make Starbuck Pink Drink. This activity helped students practice important life skills such as following a recipe.
SWMS students and staff wore purple today to recognize kids who have parents in the military. Children with parents in the military make great sacrifices. SWMS would like to thank all children with military parents.
The following 5th grade students entered a regional Grandparents Essay contest: Rachel Sperling, Nadia Smith, Jack Blair, Zermirah Boyum, and Ayla Maguire. We are excited to announce Rachel Sperling placed 3rd overall.
