We are deeply grateful for the compassionate care and unwavering support they provide to our students and staff each day. While today offers a special opportunity to honor their contributions, we recognize that their impact is felt year-round.
A sincere thank you to Natasha, our school nurse, and Nicole, our nurse assistant, for all that you do. Your commitment, kindness, and professionalism make a meaningful difference in our school community. We appreciate you both greatly.

They play a vital role in our school community, and their positive impact is felt far beyond the cafeteria. Thank you for your hard work, kindness, and commitment to supporting our students’ well-being.
We are grateful for all that you do—today and every day.

Translation: backpacks will be lighter, attention spans will be very negotiable, and dismissal might just be the fastest part of the entire school year.

Hello Parents/Guardians & Community Members!
We love seeing our community enjoy the fields at Piedmont Valley Elementary and Stagebarn Middle School —but lately, our grass has been doing a little too much “business.” 💩 If you’re out walking your pup, please remember to scoop the poop! Please stay off of the football field and surrounding areas. Our students would prefer grass, not surprises.
Help us keep the fields open for everyone—otherwise, we may have to press “paws” on public access and we don't want for it to come to that.
Thanks for being a responsible pet owner! 🐶

Meade School District 46-1
April 15, 2026
The Meade School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Thienes as Assistant Principal at Piedmont Valley Elementary and Stagebarn Middle School.
Thienes brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, with a strong focus on instructional excellence, equity, and student achievement. She began her career as a classroom teacher in Washington, where she developed a passion for supporting diverse learners and implementing culturally responsive teaching practices. During this time, she earned her National Board Certification and gained early leadership experience coordinating an English Language Learner (ELL) summer school program.
Throughout her career, Thienes has served in a variety of leadership roles, including ELL Facilitator, Literacy Specialist, and Assistant Principal. She later served seven years as an Elementary Principal, where she led school improvement efforts and fostered a collaborative learning environment. Most recently, she has worked as a Director of Student Services, leading districtwide systems work and helping design and implement a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to strengthen early intervention and collaboration between general and special education.
Melissa’s depth of experience and commitment to student success make her an outstanding addition to our leadership team. Her background in instructional leadership and systems-level work will be a tremendous asset to our schools and community.
Thienes is recognized for her collaborative leadership style, dedication to coaching and professional growth, and ability to build strong relationships with staff and students. A graduate of Wall and a former elementary student in Enning, South Dakota, she is excited to return to her roots, reconnect with family, and continue serving students, families, and staff in the Meade School District.
She will begin her new role early this summer!
