
Seeking nominations: 2024 SPED Staff of the Year Award
The department’s Office of Special Education Programs is accepting nominations for the 2024 SPED Staff of the Year Award. Parents/guardians can nominate a special education staff member who made an outstanding contribution to the education of their child. Nominees may include SPED teachers, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologist, or paraprofessional who have served in their profession for three or more years.

Entries are due Jan. 19, 2024. The top five nominees will be invited to the 2024 South Dakota Special Education Conference luncheon in Sioux Falls on March 6, 2024, where the award recipient will be announced.


Congratulations to SBHS junior, Bennett Gordon, for being selected as this year's BIG Idea Ag Innovative Award Winner. The BIG Idea Competition is a business idea competition for high school students created to help enhance the entrepreneurial spirit in our state’s youth. The Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Dec 6, 2023 at Northern State University.

Some items are still needed for the Thanksgiving Baskets! The date has been extended until Monday, November 20 at 8 am SHARP to try to get closer to our goal.
Right now these are the items that we need the most of:
18 boxes of stuffing
12 cans of fruit
38 cans of yams/ sweet potatoes
16 cans of gravy
6 boxes of instant mash potatoes
15 cans of olives
18 jars of pickles
9 turkey roasting pans

Veterans Day Programs are taking place at Sturgis Williams MS, Sturgis Elementary, Whitewood Elementary, Stagebarn MS and Piedmont Valley Elementary Thursday, November 10, 2023. Due to limited capacity at PVE ONLY, the program is for students only.



Sturgis Williams Middle School is once again collecting items for their Thanksgiving basket food drive. Student Council creates Thanksgiving baskets for families who wouldn’t get a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal. The drive will run 11/9 - 11/17. The items that are required can be located HERE! This is a school-wide event: Teachers, advisors, & students collect and promote, while the families are called and pickup is arranged by our counselors.


*ATHLETE OF THE WEEK*
Emmie Sargent is part of the Sturgis Scooper Volleyball team. Emmie led Sturgis with 13 kills in their regular season finale vs Rapid City Central. #KWIKMARTSTURGISSUBS #KBHBRadio will be giving a $10 Conoco gift card and FREE sub or macaroni and cheese.
